Examples of situations in sport where Mindsport training has been effective.
All of the scenarios are taken from real-world anecdotes. We have kept any
client information confidential.
Problem
The head coach of a football club felt that some of their players were losing focus at pivotal moments during competition. This resulted in the team conceding goals unnecessarily, and losing games they were expected to win.
Solution
Using a series of focus techniques and strategies, the head coach learned ways to keep certain team members switched on at important times during the contest. Fewer goals were conceded, and the team were able to push home their advantage during matches with greater effectiveness.
Problem
The head coach of a tennis academy wanted to improve the mood within the camp. She felt that there were a number of players that were particularly negative, which in turn created a tense environment.
Solution
After training with Mindsport the head coach learned ways to help her players generate positive states. Using visualisation techniques, and strategies to transform negative experiences into positive ones, the players learned how to take control of their own emotions. Over-time the mood within the camp improved.
Problem
The head coach of a P.E department believed that the school teams were under-performing because of an overly strong desire to win. This he felt was creating tension during performances and damaging the team’s ability to perform well.
Solution
Mindsport provided the head coach with the skills and knowledge to re-shape what success meant to the individual players. Instead of focusing the outcome of winning, individuals were encouraged to focus on the processes that created success. This lead to the team feeling more in-control and confident, and consequently performances improved.
Problem
The head coach of a hockey club was having trouble convincing his team to buy into a new formation that would be used for a series of up-and-coming matches.
Solution
Through completing one of Mindsport’s mental skills training programmes, the head coach was taught a series of persuasive language techniques designed to strengthen and build rapport. After applying the language techniques during team talks, the players became more comfortable with the coach’s vision and the new formation he was using.
