If your blog is going to stand the test of time make sure that the information that you write about is universal. In other words write about subjects that don’t go out of date.
Technology, current trends, fashion, and popular culture are examples of topics that regularly become out dated and get replaced by the latest fad.
Topics like health, food, geography, history, psychology, are examples of subjects that are more likely to endure the test of time.
Ask yourself the question; “in ten years will people be interested in what I have written?”
If the answer is yes, the chances are that your material is universal and will always be of interest to a significantly sized audience.
Always set a particular date to release your blog post. Regularity is important because it shows your audience that you are committed to your work.
All humans have habits and if your readers begin to recognise that you have a specific day in which you release your latest post, they will soon learn to visit your website on that set day.

Questions like, ‘what am I giving to my audience’, and ‘why would someone even consider reading my blog,’ should be answered with ease if you are convinced that your work is of real and recognised value.
For people to invest time out of their day to read your material there must be something in it for them.
Providing your readers with value also exercises the law of reciprocation.
This basic norm of human culture states ‘try to repay, in kind, what another person has provided.’
If on your site you have added value to the lives of your readers, they feel indebted to return the favour. This can manifest itself in a number of ways:
- Telling others about your website (viral marketing)
- Giving you invaluable feedback (market research)
- Buying something from you
- Linking to your site
The value that you give to your readers is nearly always returned through one or more of the avenues above.
The law of reciprocation is so pervasive that it often happens without the conscious awareness of your readers.
I bet you have come across blogs and websites that have provided you with value, and I guarantee that all of you have exercised at least one of these 4 repayment streams.

Work out what your audience want and give it to them
In business and in blogging there is a danger to assume that you know what people want. Nine times out of ten what you think your readers want and what they actually want, are worlds apart.
The best way to find out what people want is to ask them. If this is impractical, look at other successful blogs and examine the content of their sites. Pool together all of the most popular topics, and try to cover some of these areas on your blog.
